second release on the new ibadan offshoot, public service recordings. >life story< gets the ball rolling with some bumping disco-fueled peaktime house, with a strong female vocal dominating atop a bed of funky bass, stellar synth lines, and solid house beats. yohan squares >love of life< takes the mood a little deeper with some lush late night house, blending sweeping textured synth lines behind a deep bassline groove and shuffling late night house beats. on the reverse, julian jonahs >jealousy of lies< is a detroit-flavored late night houser, with textured synth lines, a stellar spoken male vocal, and laidback beats and bassline all combining perfectly. last up is >rey-d<, a deep late night track that utilizes some fairly bumping beats behind a minimal bassline and rich chords for some minimal floor grooves.

white label/stamped repress! the second release on the m>o>s record label could have been part of hollands rich techno-history, if released when the tracks where made. dating back as early as 1993, these two tracks come straight out of a plastic bag full of sa90 tapes in ross154s bathroom (thats where he plays his music loud) and a cardboard box filled with cassettes rediscovered while moving aroy dee into his way too expensive spacious loft in the historical centre of amsterdam.

we are proud to have discovered a new artist for traum who will boost the cinematic and electronic side of the label. the debut sees a sound evolving with thomas bjerring that is emotionally deep to the heart, masterfully produced and unique. the a-side >stratus< moves like fog over woods and landscapes. it is rich and mighty in texture but light as well. it is somehow detached and at the same time very touching... a master piece of techno.

truly beautiful deep house records are things to be treasured, akin to proper songs that will last the test of time, not made to meet a fleeting fad. this is one of those records and a real pinnacle & departure for blm & pawas. although the term deep is an oft overused one, >waiting game< personifies the genres true key traits with a subtly moving groove that gradually builds, using layers of subtle percussion and a rich, warm synth motif to make a rich tapestry of sounds before finally introducing the beautiful female vocal that gives the track its name. patrice scott liked the track so much that he agreed to remix it - his first ever outside of his own, excellent, sistrum label. using plenty of the original track parts but taking it a different direction, patrice really has come up with something special. the track moves along with snippets of the main vocal and clever use of the main synth, the groove being underpinned by patrice s classic sense of production before moving into a more classic >detroit< ending - a mindset with a bigger, more dramatic sensibility

the third 12 inch in this essential edit series sees greg wilson reference his past as a disco dj in the late 70s and, subsequently, electro-funk pioneer of the early 80s. going way back to his golden guinea days, ruff wrap revitalizes a hidden gem from 1977 by lady love. this version of casey & finchs infectious miami groover, wrap your arms around me, was a record that, although never issued in the uk, was a particular club favourite on merseyside - its local popularity very much down to one of wilsons influences, terry lennaine, who championed the track on his weekly specialist soul show, keep on truckin. moving on 6 years to 1983, ruff rapp re-arranges the seminal west coast rap cut bad times (i cant stand it) by captain rapp, which was a monster tune on the black scene during the electro-funk era, having initially featured at wilsons club nights back then, legend and the hacienda in manchester, plus wigan pier. focusing on the social problems of the time, the subject matter of the lyric certainly translates to the current credit crunch climate. the crew behind >bad times< included jam & lewis and rich cason, whilst kimberly balls excellent vocal sets the whole thing off

vertex is an exploration in two parts. the a sideÆs vertex and the locus of points explore the trackier side of tejadaÆs work meant mostly for vinyl play. both tracks make good use of strong wavetable chorded sounds, which are modulated throughout. the rhythms of the chords make up the identity of the track with elements coming in and out. vertex showcases a more layered approach to take the track from a percussive to a smooth feel. the locus of points follows more of a straight up techno approach sounding simple and effective. the b-side explores the more melodic and arrangement based side of tejadaÆs work. liquid mirror is a track rich in layers. 3 modular synth layers provide the initial modulating melodic ground work which is then complimented by lush tejada keyboard work bringing the song to itÆs apex and then reducing it back to itÆs start all while backed by tejadaÆs powerful drum work. p.l.l.
